OFFGRID with Rapasa Otieno, John Pope & Frankie Archer + RŪNN

Cobalt Studios, 10 Boyd St, Newcastle Upon Tyne

OFFGRID is a night of visceral and intimate musical experience. No whirrs or hums, zero power, just pure acoustic music and candlelight.

Bringing Kenyan storytelling to life with a Geordie twang; Rapasa Otieno is a singer, songwriter, storyteller, multi-instrumentalist, music educator and contemporary dancer. Frankie Archer brings intricate melodies on a fiddle whilst master of improv & jazz John Pope adds double bass depth. This unexpected blend of instruments combined with gara (bells worn on the right ankle) gives Rapasa's music a unique texture & charm.

RŪNN explore and intertwine the rich harmonic and rhythmic textures of accordion and bodhran resulting in a bold, expansive sound.
